Ingredients
1 box Pillsbury Classic White or Betty Crocker Super Moist White cake mix
Ingredients called for on the box (usually eggs, oil, water)
2-4 tablespoons vanilla frosting
12 oz light pink or white candy melts
*if using white get light pink food coloring
1-2 teaspoons vegetable shortening or coconut oil
White sugar pearls (the little round sprinkles)
Cake pop sticks (we could only find bamboo sticks so cut them in half)
Step 1:
Bake the cake
Bake according to the package
The biggest Starbucks secret:
Let it cool completely.
Cut off all the browned edges so only the soft white interior remains.
This makes the inside taste just like
Starbucks.
Step 2:
Make the filling
Crumble the cake until it’s very fine.
Mix in:
Start with 2 tablespoons
vanilla frosting
Add another tablespoon only if needed.
It should feel like soft Play-Doh-not sticky.
Many people use too much frosting, which is why homemade cake pops often don’t taste like Starbucks.
Step 3:
Roll
Roll into balls about 1¼ inches wide.
refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.
Step 4:
Add sticks
Melt a small amount of candy melts.
Dip each stick about ½ inch into the candy, then insert halfway into each cake ball.
Chill another 15-20 minutes.
Step 5:
Coat
Melt the remaining candy melts, add food coloring if using
Mix in:
1-2 teaspoons coconut oil or vegetable shortening
This makes the coating thinner and gives that smooth Starbucks finish.
Dip each cake pop in one smooth motion, gently tap off the excess coating, then immediately add 3-5 white sugar pearls before it hardens.
Refrigerate another 5 minutes and enjoy!
